Getting to know us
Some family history: I am the daughter of Daniel Richard and Lorraine Margaret Bushor Smith. Daniel was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, July 29, 1927. Lorraine was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, October 14, 1926. She died November 15, 2003 and her ashes are buried in Calvary Cemetery south of Tomahawk. Dan and Lorraine had five children, Brian, born Sept. 6, 1949; Deborah "Debbie" September 7, 1951; Victor and Vincent, August 5, 1953; and Jeff, December 7, 1954. I was married April 22, 1972, to Greg Holmberg. That marriage ended in divorce in 1981. I then married Robert Whittaker Sr. and inherited his children. When he died in 1988, Imarried Raymond Eugene Shope. He died in December, 2001. I moved from Pennsylvania to Mississippi in August, 2003. There I met Wayne Hester of Mobile County, Alabama and we were married October 11, 2003. Lorraine and Dan have numerous grandchildren and stepgrandchildren. To Debbie -- all stepgrands --Bob Whittaker, 58, (wife, Kim) of Mill Creek, PA; Wesley Whittaker, 40's, somewhere in Texas; Doug Whittaker, 38, Washington, D.C.; Jeb Shope, 49, (wife, Sandy) Huntingdon, PA; Debra Lansberry, 48, (widowed) Commerce, GA; Jebra Ward, 48, (husband, Bill) Baltimore, MD; Karen Harris, 30, (husband, Jeff) Decatur, GA; Cynthia Hester, 27, (significant other, Jason Phillips) St. Augustine, FL; and Lesley Hester, 25, (single) Semmes, AL. Great grands are: Justin Shope, 21, Huntingdon, PA; Eric Shope, 17, (Parents Jeb and Sandy Shope) Huntingdon; Erica Brannon, 24, Lewistown, PA; Melissa Massey, 25, Pensacola, FL. (Parents of the girls, Jebra Ward and Raymond Guthridge). Wesley Kate Harris, Brayden Thornburg (father Phillip Thornburg), and Ryan Hester (father Jamie Freeman). Both of these boys belong to Lesley.
Brian has no family. Vince is married to Sandy and they have three sons, Rob Bell, Brad Smith (wife, Brandy) and Will Smith (wife, Marie). Victor was married to Ella Quinn and they had Melissa. He was divorced and then married to Ruth Hutchinson. They had two sons, Josh and Seth. They adopted Brittany. Jeff was married to Debbie Hess. They had three children; Matthew (married to Sarah), Jeni and Tim. Matt and Jeni are both in Wisconsin. Tim is in Alaska. Jeff and Debbie were divorced and he then married Judy. Judy has two children, Wes and Lindsey. Lindsey is married to Eric Payne and they have one son, Jack, and daughter Sophie is due to be born June 16.
Daniel Smith is the son of Martin and Elizabeth Smith. Elizabeth died when Dan was about 13. Martin then married Diana who was the only grandmother we kids knew. Grandpa died in 1957. Diana died at about age 98. I think she was born in 1900.
Lorraine was the daughter of Anslem and Eva Bushor. Anslem died in Oregon while working on the back of a tar truck. He was pinned to the back of the truck when a drunk driver hit the back of the truck. He and grandma had taken all the kids, 5 of them, cross country from Tomahawk in an old car in 1943 or 44. (I'll have to check on that.) so that grandpa could find work. After he died, grandma sold everything and brought the kids all back to Tomahawk on the train. There is a diary and photos of the trip that I intend to put together sometime for anyone who wants a copy. Eva was born March 31, 1901. I don't remember when she died. It was probably in the mid 1970's. I'll add more geneology at a later date.
